Happy Batman Day!

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the creation of Batman, DC Comics has offically deemed July 23rd, 2014 as National Batman Day, a celebration of all things Dark Knight that includes the distribution of free Batman comic books and the kick-off to the always hotly-anticipated San Diego Comic-Con!

Batman always has been and always will be my favorite comic book character, and fictional character in general - so much so that when I first started The DVD SHELF MOVIE REVIEWS in late 2010, I saw Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight as the perfect movie to begin my web series.  The DVD Shelf has evolved quite substantially over its relatively short run and to pay tribute to The Dark Knight being my first movie review, every tenth episode of The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews has been a new review of a Batman piece.

Episode 10 was a look at Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, an amazing and stylish movie spin-off of the classic cartoon show, Batman: The Animated Series.  Then, in episode 20, I spent nearly 90 minutes gushing over the classic 1966 Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward while focusing mainly on the tie-in film that was released in the summer of 1966.  Thankfully, the series will FINALLY be released on DVD and Blu-ray in November of this year and I, for one, can't wait!  So, to celebrate National Batman Day, I've provided a simple way to access my three previous Batman-related reviews for any of you who haven't yet checked them out!  Rest assured that when episode 30 comes around, it'll be my biggest Batman review yet, but in the meantime, head to the Batcave and enjoy this celebration of the Caped Crusader as only The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews can!

And while you're here, make sure to check out a few of my other Batman-related videos including High-Def Make-Overs of the classic 1966 opening theme song and the 1992 animated series!

The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews: Batman The 1966 Movie

In the monumental twentieth episode of The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews, we'll celebrate the lighter side of The Dark Knight by delving deep into the 1966 Batman movie starring Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo.  One can't do this film justice, though, without giving full insight into the classic TV series that the film was tied in with and to fully appreciate this more comedic take on Batman and Robin, I'll also discuss the dire state of comic books at the time.  I'll then reveal some additional DVD titles that no 60's Bat-fan should be without.  We probably wouldn't have the Batman we know and love today if it wasn't for this TV show and movie, so sit back and enjoy the full (and long) story behind the phenomenon that made Batman a pop culture staple.  The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews is hosted by David Rose.

And don't forget to hit the HD button on the video player!

Batman Youtube Video on!

Sitting at almost 15,000 views on YouTube as I write this, my 1966 Batman TV Theme Dark Knight video can now be viewed HERE at the ever-popular Jett's Batman On Film website.  Being the huge Batman fan that I am, my visits to BOF have been almost daily for over a decade and I'm honored to be a small part of the legacy. The site has had all the latest news tidbits as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and now The Dark Knight Rises have been in development over the years and any Bat-fan who doesn't live under a rock has been to his site.  After I contacted him via e-mail, BOF founder and editor-in-chief Bill "Jett" Ramey was kind enough to respond very quickly and post my vid on his site which has attracted a little more attention to this site.  Many thanks, Bill, and keep up the great work on BOF as we quickly approach the release date of The Dark Knight Rises!  Check out Jett's Batman on Film site for the latest Bat-News at the link HERE.

Batman Youtube Video on!

I'm writing another post for this video I made and posted back in January.  It was just a simplistic idea that I can't believe hadn't been done on Youtube before.  It is now my highest viewed video on Youtube by...ahem...quite alot.  As of this writing, the video has been seen well over 2,200 times and it just keeps going!

It's been a slow and steady climb, but just yesterday, it was given quite a generous boost by Tommy over at, a very popular blog dedicated to all things Batman!  It's an awesome feeling seeing your work being discovered randomly on Youtube and, all of a sudden, posted on other websites. Tommy wrote a very nice little piece about it and, for the first time, it's being seen in other countries as well!  Wow!  Thanks, Tommy, and you can visit his Bat-Blog site HERE!

Batman 1966 Opening Theme (Dark Knight Style)

Batman 1966 Opening Credits (Dark Knight Style... by happydragonpictures

To help kick off the first episode of my new show, The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews, which features the 2008 blockbuster, The Dark Knight, I wanted to include a little bonus video.  Have you ever wanted to see the classic 1966 Batman TV show opening credits sequence in high-definition widescreen?  Me too!  Sadly, this classic show has never been released to DVD meaning that any copies of the sequence that have circulated on YouTube are extremely low quality. So, since remakes are all the rage these days, why not do a remake of the classic theme with an updated look and a modern twist? Enjoy!
